Welch Grain Company was founded in 1926 by bothers Tom and Jim Welch. They began by buying and selling grain from the local farmers.  In 1930 Tom opened a grocery & feed store, and used local grain to make into feed.  In 1939 Tom bought a feed mill in Dalhart, and ran it until 1947.

After graduating from Texas A & M and three years in the Army Tom's son T. I. took the reins. T.I. continued the feed business and began building grain elevators in and around Dalhart.  He was blessed with 11 children and most of them work for the family business at some point in their life.

In 1977 T.I. and his son Marc formed a partnership and in 1998 Marc took over Welch Grain Company. Since joining the business Marc has added 650,000 bushels of capacity and refurbished all of the existing storage.

In 2009 Marc's oldest son Travis joined the company. Travis worked the summer months with this father while attending Texas Tech University and then spent 10 years as an I.T. Manager.
